Surprisingly, I am in many places!! But I don't update any of them regularly. I try, though? D: (I try not to spam to much and I work a lot and well, yus. *sigh*)

Feel free to add me on any of them! I'm mostly friendly and don't bite much. ^__^

Aaaand I was gonna cut this and forgot. Argh my mushy brain peas. )

That's enough procrastination for the time being. :P Back to the Goblings! (Tiny goblins! EeeeEEE!! ^__^)
D - Heart!
I've got an apartment! ^__^ Which means I'll be moving a couple weeks after I get back to WI. ^_^ It's lovely and nicely located with walkable shops and is across the street from a lovely cemetery. :D

So far this week, I've walked around a whole lot every day and explored a bunch of places. I've scoped out quite a few bakeries and little quirky shops and stuff. And today I'm gonna walk down to the art supply store and see if they have Pearlex so I can paint my armatures. Whoot! ^___^

Also I have yet to drive Coyo batty, which is good so I should stop worrying. :P And she's been awesome and made of win and read "the Silent Gondoliers" to me and it was also made of awesome! :D :D ♥!

I've finished sculpting one goblin and have finished up 7 armatures. 60 more to go! :P They've all got arms now, and next it to give them hands and feet. ^__^ and I've got about 10 finished that need pictures taken, too!

Also, I must admit that my brain is loopy and I'm all AAAH!! BUT I DUN WANNA GO BACK TO WI YET! D: D: (so much to do when I get there! D: D: D: )

SO YUS. Fear my incoherency! OOh! And later today I'm gonna take my dolls out to the graveyard and take pictures! Today's a nice day for it? ^___^ (or tomorrow.)

*****

Travel plans wise, I drive back to Santa Cruz Monday night and head back to WI Wednesday night. I'll be back in Madison Thursday morning and hopefully not need a vacation from my reconnaissance trip. *sigh*

*****

So, I am moving! Cross country! Finally! ^___^

I'm gonna have a moving sale sometime before I leave. There will be many books and furniture bits and things I just don't want to haul across the country. (and if anyone would like to assist me in pulling that together, I would *so8 appreciate it. ^_^) And I *really* want to have a going away sushi so as to see all the folks I'll see online in person before I go. ^___^

I'll be back in Madison at least once a year for Wiscon and to see family and all that, so it's not like I won't be around. :P As I'm a hermit, it'll not be much different then it has been, really. I just won't be complaining about thunderstorms and blizzards as much. :P

So let me know if you are interested in a sushi! And when would be a good time. ^___^ Whee!

*****

Okee. Now I go take my walk and try not to talk Coyo's ear off some more when I get back. :P :P *babble babble babble*

for a few days. ^__^

GLADOS was actually quite helpful.

My heels hurt like mothers due to my not being able to figure out the cruise control dohickies while driving 70mph. (but they are better today and I'm gonna go and take GLADOS for a walk soon. ^_^)

[personal profile] ciceqi is made of hearts and awesome and made delicious manacotti for dinner. omnomnom! (and then I kept her up too late with my chatting. D: sorry!!)

Then I slept for a really long time and now I am ready to go explore!! whee!

And tonight I'm gonna make creatures and plans for the rest of my time here. ^__^ ♥

the end.

ETA: Dear Madison people. You can thank me for leaving so the weather would get better. JUST TO SPITE ME! yus. >_>

This time tomorrow I'll be on a plane to SFO! I'll be staying with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] strangemodegirl for a couple days in Santa Cruz and then driving to Portland for a reconnaissance mission and staying with the fabulous [personal profile] ciceqi! (who has graciously offered to put me up for a week! eep! ^_^ or is that put up with me... hmmm. :P) ^_____^

So excited!

And? Today I rode my bike to Java Cat and had coffee with the awesome [livejournal.com profile] goblingirl, who made me a creature!!

I need to finish packing and get some stuff mailed out, now. eep!

Also, MAAAAAAAN. Y'all think good thought for me? It looks like there's gonna be thunderstorms tomorrow morning. :(((( I don't wanna be flying in the storms. :(( *crosses everything that they blow over tonight*
Bessie! the best yellow bike in the wor
This evening, Cathy and I waded through thigh high flooding in the Shopko parking lot while battling sideways rain and winds that blew the garden plants across the front of the store and created waves in the runoff. D: It's been a while since we've had a bunch of big storms like this. ^_^ The drains in the parking lot and along the passage out towards the highway were whirling like Leviathans! And ever so often one of them ahead of us would spit up a plume like a blowhole. :D :D It was rather hilarious. LOL.

I think we should rename Cathy's Saturn to Moby Dick. :P

We've had tornado warnings in most of the counties in Southern Wisconsin this evening and another big storm is heading this way now. (the thunder just started and I can hear the wind pick up.)

For a little while there, there was no sound at all outside. The torrential rain had stopped and the sky was both green and twisted up, while clearing right above us. Me and Cathy being lifelong tornado belt residents went. D: and were rather glad that we are both down in the basement with all four cats already.

It's really rather beautiful and exciting. ^___^

Our studios are down here in the basement as are out laptops, a tv, a worksink, a bathroom and it's clean and well lit and roomy. So we are doing fine. (also I was at Shopko to buy RED for my hair because I am leaning towards auburn at the moment. :P I... don't think I'll be doing that tonight, though. Rinsing my head in the work sink does not have much appeal. D:)

I am a bit worried about folks and I hope that the only incidents are storm damage and not injuries. *crosses fingers* (Damage reports are starting to come in and Cathy just told me that while she was watching the storm coverage, they saw a "debris field" on the radar and found out soon after that a house and another structure had been hit somewhere between Madison and Milwaukee. I hope there were no injuries. :/ still sucks, though.)

***

In other news, I had a lovely day pre-storm riding my bike around town and hanging out with Jen. ^___^ I ♥ Jen.

I need to remind myself that when I start feeling squirrelly and itchy and sleepless and my skin doesn't fit quite right, that it's a very good thing to go ride my bike up a couple hills and not think about anything but my muscles moving and the patterns of traffic and enjoying the sweat and the weather and the good tired at the end.

I brought my DOOMkit with me and finished the Basilisk!! Here is Regina the Basillisk. She is for [livejournal.com profile] upstart_crow. ^___^

and a couple more! )

Aaaaaand here comes the rain again. I think I'll work on finishing goblins tonight. ^__^ It seems fitting for them to be born in a storm. :) (Apparently, it's just going to be rain and flooding to watch out for from now until morning. So, no more tornadoes?)
artist: arthur hughs
I slept in really late today, mailed a couple packages and then spent some time just vegging out and staring at the ceiling. :P It was rather nice.

Wiscon was fabulous! *squishes all the folks I got to see* I actually got to go to a reading! omg. I had fabulous volunteers that made it possible for me to step away from the register a couple times and I came home nowhere near as exhausted as I was last year. :D

The Art Show had a couple snags at the beginning and one near the end, but other than that it ran as smoothly as I could hope for. YAY! \o/

THANK YOU to all the fabulous artists that make the show so wonderful!! I'm looking forward to seeing all of you again next year! ♥ ♥ ♥

(now I am going to make food and start going through my notes. :D and then go catch up on Urban Fey and stuff. ^__^ and possibly clean my room before sleeping for another zillion years.)
artist: arthur hughs
My Wiscon Schedule:

Art Show physical setup on Thursday, wrangling artists for Artist setup 9-5 on Friday, Art Show preview 6-8ish on Friday. And then the "Goblin Girls and Bedlam Boys" reading if I'm still awake. ^_^

Saturday, Tiptree Tshirts available for sale in the Art Show in the morning, as is also all the lovely art! I'll be pretty much at the register most of the day. Tiptree Auction that evening and counting ballots (and printing certificates! aargh) after that. Hopefully I can take a break somewhere in there for the "Split Tongues: Readings from the Borders of English" Reading and "The Politics of Steampunk" Panel.

(The schedule says:Steampunk fetishes Victorian science. Gadgets are fun, and the spirit of amateur scientific inquiry invigorates the questioning mind. But Victorian science was often pressed into service enforcing the boundaries of sexism, racism, and classism. Can we as a community claim the dress and symbols of upper–class, white Victorian society but incorporate our progressive politics? Is there a way to subvert the steampunk paradigm? What about the chambermaid chemist in the coal cellar?
M: Liz L. Gorinsky. Nisi Shawl, Amal El-Mohtar, Theodora Goss, Piglet, Jaymee Goh

Omnomnom.

BUT it's scheduled in the same slot as "Sexuality in Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Legacy series"

D'Angelines claim all kinds of consensual sexual activity and relationships are normal, even sacred. Yet some tendencies are clearly less acceptable than others (e.g., Phedre's masochism), sex workers are sacred yet not always respected, and political marriages are common in a society that says it values free choice. Many of their taboos look much like our own: e.g., in a society that doesn't value sexual "purity," should a courtesan's first sexual experience be so fetishized? For that matter, why do the relationships focused on in the currently published books tend to be hetero, monogamous, and relatively vanilla? Which of Terre D'Ange's practices are genuinely transgressive in terms of our social constructions of sexuality, and which seem to reinforce those constructions?
M: Anna Black. Charlie Jane, Beth Friedman, Juliana, Jean Roberta

AAAHHH! I can't deciiiide! D: D: D: )

And then I go back to the Art Show to reassure my fabulous volunteers that I have not abandoned them and possibly bring them baked goods and chocolates. ~_^

Sunday is Art Show, the Guest of Honor Speeches/Dessert Salon and maaaaaaybe checking out the parties for 15 minutes or so. (My brain can't take the parties usually. :/ They're too loud, crowded and overwhelming and I go AAAH! and then somewhere else fast. But for some reason every year I give it a try. *sigh*)

And then Monday is Artist check out and trying to find the homes for wayward art pieces, Art Show physical take down and clean up and then I go home and die for a week before it's time to do Art Show paperwork, write and mail the Artist checks out and start planning for next year. o_O;;

Oh Wiscon, I both love and hate you at the same complicated time.

So YUS! Who's gonna be there? I need peeps to go get dinner with! ^__^ Ooh! and this year I caved and got a room, so I'll be around a lot more than I have the last few years. ^___^ yeys!

Also Also, COME SEEEE MEEE AND THE ART SHOWWW!!! I know I say this every year, but OMG folks! The art this year is AWESOME! 56 fabulous artists! *bat noises* ♥

I am pretty tuckered out as I stayed up last night with a wild hair of inspiration and finished the Poet! omg finally!! I went to bed around 6am hoping that Leeloo would let me sleep past 10, but no joy. :/ So yus. Jane will not be working past posting this. *augh. dies of no sleep* I truly believe that right now caffeine will do me more harm then good and so I'll try and catch up a bit by going to bed early. (Oh, the huge manatees!)

So yus! The Poet! The poet Elah Gal is the narrator of "Child Empress of Mars" by Theodora Goss and I've been working on her for about 6 months now. o_o;; I am very happy to have finished her and hopefully I can get her in the mail onward to her destination soon.

ETA: Things I thought I posted but apparently didn't and this is why I shouldn't post exhausted. >_>

Back in Novemberish, I posted about the Interfictions 2 auction and the doll i made and donated for the Interstitial Arts Foundation (IAF). The story I chose, "Child Empress of Mars" by Theodora Goss, can be found in the Interfictions 2 anthology which you can buy from Amazon here and Small Beer Press here. :D I totally encourage folks to check it out! Not just for the Child Empress, but for the rest of the stories as well. So much yay! :D :D

Today I went to Highpoint Gallery in Mineral Point, WI with my housemate Cathy. ^__^ She has a bunch of stuff there and I have a couple pieces. As it's a co-op gallery, all the artists take turns gallery sitting each weekend.

I have a headache today. The kind where it feels like I have a fever and I can't get enough to drink but really I just need to sleep for a long time. meh. :/ so I think I'm going to go to bed early, but first!

I finished gluing the glass thingies on the mirror: )

I'm thinking that the next step I'm gonna take is to very lightly grout them, leave the blank spots with wood showing through and then fill in the blank spots with flowers and vines doodles. ^__^

Aaaaand, when I've done with that and it's dry, I've got a bunch of leather scraps I've been patchworking together to wrap the back and sides in. Whoot!

I'm trying to limit the amount of weight I'm putting on it now, with the wood + glass thingies it's already heavy enough! (Which I'm hoping with the right support at the bottom means it'll be a bitch for the cats to knock over. :P one can always live in hope, right?)

okee. Headache. Gonna take headache pills and sleep now. bleah.

Sylph - She Bites
Sooooo, when I am not posting, it usually means I've been working. :P Here's a little of what I've been working on.

Mostly non-dolls as I've been mostly making armatures there and I've posted enough pics of those. :P 2.5 weeks to Wiscon! So I've got a lot of dolls to make/finish/photograph which of course is why I'm working on other things. >_>;

My latest studio setup: hmm this was supposed to have cut. argh. )

The past year, Ive been covering everything in leather. I've found that I really like three ring binders and not only does the leather make them lovely, it also is wears nicely and gives it a bit more heft. whoot!

Leather Binders:

Leather binders and TOMES! omg. )

A week or so ago, I was bemoaning my burnout and wandering around Michael's with my housemate and came across these little wooden toys. ♥_♥ After buying them, I proceeded to stay up til morning 3 days in a row sanding and making sparkles on them. *___* and then I went back and bought more. >_> so cute! and clickie-clackie! :D

Lizard and Millipede:

Dragons adn lizards and sharks and DINO BUTTERFLIES(to be)! omg. )

I am also mosaicing my mirror. A couple years ago I picked up an old $10 walmart mirror off the curb on Hippy Xmas. I used it for a while until the cheap plastic frame fell off and the cardboard peeled off the back. For a while I had this raw piece of glass leaning against my wall.

I got an idea a week or two ago and headed over to Menards for a 6' edge glued pine board, some epoxy and sandpaper and Michael's for those glass thingies you put in vases. (Which were on clearance! omg Michael's clearance. ;))

So, Board + Epoxy + Sparklepaint + Glass Thingies = My mirror! It'll lean against the wall and be awesome. ^___^ totally WIP right now, though. :P

Mirror: cut cut cut the pics )

Beastie: Also, There are beastie wip pics. beastie!

I heart the beastie! armature making! )

And finally two projects that are sitting there still waiting for me to get to.

bamboo, daisies, doors and windows )

Also, if I were to update more frequently, one would think that my posts would be shorter. >_>. *sigh*

Now I go sniff more glue and possibly grout the mirror this afternoon! :D :D

I just woke up from a dream where my laptop got stolen at the Mall and I said, "Screw it! I'm gonna start an artist's collective and teach classes. I don't need no internets! All my notes are in this nifty binder after all. \m/(><)\m/" And then I found this GORGEOUS fabric shop and invited everyone I knew on the internets to come sort through the AWESOME scraps with me. >_>;

And then I woke up thinking it was Monday and just spent the past 20 minutes trying to remember what I did on non-existent Sunday and freaking out that I had SO MUCH WORK TO DO and trying to figure how I'm gonna do it all in 5 hours. (my... brain isn't functioning on all levels? ack.)

THIS MEANS I SHOULD POST TO THE INTERNET! HI. Anybody want to go find that FABULOUS fabric shop in the art supply mall with me? :P

As I seem to have gained a day, I'm gonna head off to Zombie Jeebus Brunch and then come home to watch Doctor Who and make more art. AAAAAHHHH.

Hihi. I am still moving. urgh.

I've got about 30 boxes, 2 light bookcases, a few fold up tables, a kitchen table, three kitchen chairs, a light wooden rocking chair, my plants and my roots left. It shouldn't take very long at all if there are enough folks?

I would *love* to have this finished tomorrow. I could use as many hands and vehicles as available and can order Glass Nickel around noon?

I'm moving from the Atwood area to Fair Oaks, so it's not far and this is just the last bits that I couldn't move last week. (I hurt my knee and my back the first day of moving and it threw my schedule way off. :/ I'm better now! but I'm still a bit leery of hauling stuff without help. :(( )

Dear Artist,

We invite you to participate in the WisCon Art Show.

WisCon is the pre-eminent feminist science fiction convention in the
world. We believe that Art is an important aspect of SF, and that an
exciting Art Show is an important part of any convention. We strive to
make the WisCon Art Show a continuing success by integrating the art
show with the rest of the convention.

Art show focus:

Work by women artists
Work by regional artists
Work with feminist themes, whatever that may be

We don't plan to define feminist themes. That's up to you. We do,
though, plan to continue to have popular awards for the Most Feminist
and Most Outrageous items in the Art Show, as have for the past
several years. We are interested in original work by the artist, which
may include 1 copy of limited edition reproductions. For additional
print sales, you are welcome to participate in the WisCon Dealers
Room, or make an arrangement with one of the dealers. We also have a
small print shop for items with fixed sale prices; let us know if you
are interested in participating, since space will be limited.

Please complete an application at www.wiscon.info/artshow.php now!

Artists must have completed the application process and have received
an acceptance notice in order to enter art into the Art Show.

In order to include more new artists, we require all artists to submit
an application and photos of their work to the Art Show Staff by
February 6, 2010.

Completed applications must be submitted by February 6, 2010. On about
February 15 we will notify accepted artists and about May 1, we will
send forms, check-in and shipping information and other details.

If you attend, you will need to purchase a WisCon membership. Please
register at the website or mail in your registration form if you plan
on attending. Note that there is a $20 refund available if you
volunteer and work 6 or more hours on the convention (ideally, in the
Art Show) or participate in programming. Program information is
available at www.sf3.org/wiscon. If you are interested in
participating, you should go to the site and sign up.

While we are not charging for space, we do need to know in advance how
much you will need. Our standard hangings are 4' square pegboard.
Artists new to the convention may reserve 1 4x4' panel; for continuing
artists, the maximum is 2 panels. It may be possible to get more
space, but only at the discretion of the art show director based on
the space available. Last year, we filled up quickly, so more than 3
panels is unlikely. Table space is available as well, up to a full 6'
x 36" table. Please include your space needs when you apply for
entrance into the Art Show.

Convention members will have the opportunity to vote on the Art Show
awards again this year. WisCon 34's Art Show will continue to focus on
feminist art, art by women, and art by Midwestern artists. For art
show information please check the box on the registration form, email
artshow34@wiscon.info or visit the WisCon web site, www.wiscon.info

You can write the art show at the WisCon address. We can also be
reached at artshow34@wiscon.info. I would be happy to answer your
questions.

Sincerely,
Jane Washburn

So, I bought 3 pounds of Braeburns at HyVee and a bag of fresh cranberries the other day and this afternoon I started a batch of Cranberry Apple Cinnamon Sauce. mmmmm... With Vietnamese cassia, the kind that smells like cinnamon red-hots and a dash of Mexican vanilla to fancy it up. It's been simmering in my big cast iron kettle for the last hour and a half and omg *_*

Half of it I'm gonna leave chunky and the other I'm gonna puree and save to use as a fat replacer in cupcakes :D :D

Also, for lunch I had steamed broccoli, baby spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and green onions with sage, tarragon, parsley, ginger and soysauce over Kashi 7-grain Pilaf, topped with a poached egg. And smashed acorn squash and sweet potato with a little butter and brown sugar on the side!

ヽ(´▽`)ノ OmnomnomnomnomNOM!

I've getting better at cooking for one! I'm already pretty good at scaling recipes up, but there's some odd changes to consider when scaling down. (like adding a bit more liquid as things tend to burn faster if there's less of htem.)

But yus. Breakfast tomorrow is gonna be Kashi 7-grain Pilaf, 1/2 banana sliced up and Awesome Sauce with some vanilla soymilk a touch of honey and a cup of green tea. (and maybe a little extra cinnamon! omg ♥ cinnamon!) :D :D
artist: arthur hughs
So, this year! I have 3 resolutions. This is good, because usually I only allow myself one. :P

1. Read something fiction everyday. Even if it's just a page or two. My usual one resolution a year is to finish one book past chapter 3. D: and I did it in 2009! I read 2 books! omg. ヽ(´▽`)ノ This year, I just want to read one thing every day. (probably online as books mess with my eyes. stupid dyslexia. which means I'll be leaving comments on old fic if folks don't mind. ^_^)

So far I've read *4* chapters in Clive Barker's Abarat! whoo! past ch 3! (and re-reading totally counts for me! and also it's in English! omg the apocalypse is nigh.)

- reading is hard for me and yet very addictive. I have little impulse control and will read to the exclusion of all else and not get things finished that I should be finishing. I fix that by feeling MASSIVE GUILT AND ANXIETY whenever I try to read something that is not for reference or that I'm obligated to and therefore I just don't read anything. I'm working on that. I'm still not a book-o-phile, working at a bookstore smacked that out of me, but I'm at least dipping my toe in again.

2. Be more social and (slightly) less of a hermit. I'm gonna try my hardest to actually post and comment and be online more this year! And I also want to start having salons at my studio. (art parties!) But still give myself the space and time to recover from such. I am *very much* not an extrovert in person. :/ Putting on that mask exhausts me and takes a while to recover from. and that being said, I want to attend 2 conventions this year where I'm *not* working or volunteering or anything. Something just for fun!

and finally,

3. I want to make myself better. I want to continue to be healthy, make decisions that make me happy and weed out all the things that are unhealthy and anxious in my life. Which means I need to get things finished on time, Stop procrastinating and get my shit together. Argh. Fortunately, I had a good start 5 years ago and I just need to keep on keeping on on that one. It's a looong looooong road.

****

There. I think these are achievable, even though they're hard! I know I'll still go all hermity at least once a month and will still make bad decisions, but it's easier to just keep going when I've got a list. So yay list! :P

And speaking of lists, I should totally post my updated Mission 101 list! But not now. Now I must go and finish the shoveling I've been putting off while it's still light out. *sigh* oh shoveling, you are my bane.
